Feature: Lisa Vicious Day 4

Vile

Let's play
Let's play
Let's prey
ring around the rosaries
musical pews
ashes to ashes and dust to dust
we all fall...

Fall to the same God
a two syllable word
EGO-
anesthetized by judgment
we all fall down
in crowded doorways
in blistering bars
in churches of the never mind...

Here I have lost my mind.

Interview Question:

When did you first have an interest in poetry?

Lisa:

I can’t say I was consciously aware that I had an interest in poetry when I started writing. It came so naturally in my early teen years that I never questioned it. In lieu of that statement, I will admit that when I started writing it was songs that I strived for. At the time (late 80’s/early 90’s), I was into alternative and what became ‘grunge’; and my words in all honesty sucked! They were 3 chord punk songs about inanimate objects and bore no resemblance to my writing today. It wasn’t until 2001 that I took a look at the classic poets and I fell hard for Lord Byron and started despising Sylvia Plath. At the time I was in a cult, yes you heard that right, and if anything, I can say I at least walked away from that cultured on the fine arts and literature!

  1. Love this poem, Lisa-- first stanza draws you in, and the final two lines KICK! I like the echo of the word "mind". Hope I get to hear you read this aloud... ;-)
