It has been my extreme luck to have met and become good friends (via Facebook) with this week's feature, Tim Buck. Tim is an eloquent and frequent commenter on our site. He is a warm, friendly and extremely talented person that I am happy and fortunate to get to know. Tim has offered up some toe tapping music for you to enjoy and his interview questions are provided by one of our previous features, Nabina Das. You won't want to miss a day this week!
Welcome to the *Mnemosyne* family, Tim!

BIO
Tim Buck, the condensed version: he landed on Earth in 1952, grew up, and is presently riding the Calliope of Doom.
Extended version: started writing songs when he was around 14 or 15, went to work, kept writing songs, worked, was in a band in the late eighties, worked, kept writing songs, worked then retired, formed The Gothic Rangers with Robin Willhite in 2008, released a CD that year, went off the deep end last December, kept writing songs, swam over to Facebook and met groovy souls...
So here he is, riding the Ferris Wheel now, up and down, up and down...occasionally waving at bemused, uncomfortable onlookers, as he rotates through existential perplexity and heart-on-sleeve discombobulation. The end, almost.

Icarus, engraving by Hendrick Goltzius (in the public domain, expired copyright)
When I Fell
I can't recall the day it happened
or the exact circumstance.
It's in the nature of infatuation
that details melt in the mad dance.
I fell for you like an anvil
dropped in the vortex of romance.
Was it the way you smiled that made me gamble,
or was it a coy, flirtatious glance?
You didn't break my fall
when I fell for you
through gravity's law
without a parachute.
You didn't cushion the come down.
You didn't lighten the let down.
You didn't break my fall when I fell like a fool.
In Hollywood the heroes are so stoic.
Frankly my dear they don't give a damn
whether or not a woman loves or leaves them,
but I suspect pretense and flim-flam.
That old Charlie Darwin hit on something.
Survival of the fittest seems so true.
I feel myself fading out of existence
since you rejected my peacock plume.
You didn't break my fall
when I fell for you
through gravity's law
without a parachute.
You didn't cushion the come down.
You didn't lighten the let down.
You didn't break my fall when I fell like a fool.

wowie! Tim the man is here. I'm privileged to *ask* him questions both lame and funny and revel in his ever-so witty replies. I love this song:
ReplyDelete"In Hollywood the heroes are so stoic.

That's right! (and I love the falling Icarus up there)... go Tim!
Oh Tim this is excellent, I love the line, "I feel myself fading out of existence since you rejected my peacock plume." And having Darwin in there is extra special. This music is totally awesome!
ReplyDeleteHey, Nabina. I loved your questions. And I appreciate your comment. You're nifty!
ReplyDeleteMegan! Thank you, friend. And yeah, I was pleased when "Charlie" popped into my head that day. :)
